Getting Involved
There are two ways to get involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Washington: volunteering
or making a donation.
How do I make a donation?
Big Brothers Big Sisters program depend entirely on community donations and fundraising efforts. We greatly appreciate your support in helping us serve kids in our community. You can contribute
to BBBSNW in several ways:
- To make a direct donation, find and click on the "Donate Now" button at the top of any page or send a check made out to BBBSNW, 1609 Broadway, Suite 203, Bellingham, WA 98225.
- Become a sponsor or donate to our event fundraisers. (Up Coming Events)
- Put Big Brothers Big Sisters in your will. This is one of the best ways to leave a legacy that will ensure children will continue to receive the powerful services of Big Brothers Big Sisters
programs into the future.
In what ways can I volunteer?
The need for more Big Brothers and Big Sisters is immense! We always have a long list of children waiting to meet a special friend. And, there is always a particular need for male mentors
because the waiting list is predominantly boys waiting for a Big Brother. The children waiting for a mentor are looking for a friend and companion; someone to do projects or play sports with;
a pal for walks, talks or just hanging around. Most of all they want someone to take an interest in them.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Washington depends on volunteers in many different ways. As a nonprofit agency we rely on numerous volunteers to help with many other tasks required
to operate the agency including administrative and fundraising activities.

How do I become a Big Brother or Big Sister?
First, you must complete our application process. You will also learn child development, relationship building, substance abuse prevention and other valuable skills. After your references
and background checks have been contacted, we will schedule a personal interview. Once you’ve completed your interview process, you will be given training and guidance about what to
expect in your match.
Big Brothers and Sisters are people who like kids and have time to share. Our “Bigs” come from all walks of life including office and retail workers, students and factory workers,
fishers and farmers, law enforcement, self-employed and retirees. "Bigs" are not counselors or social workers. Big Brothers and Big Sisters build a safe friendship with a child,
are patient and dependable and most important – know how to have fun!
No special training is required. All you need is the willingness to spend time with someone who needs a friend. BBBS staff provides support and training as needed.
